Modern literary analyses and studies make the link between literary techniques such as narrative and storytelling and several other disciplines. Thus, one may find the theories of narrative and storytelling extending up to several major disciplines, such as philosophy, psychology, and literary criticism. In the view of different experts in literary analyses, there is a close connection between narrative or storytelling and the definition of the nature of self and personal identity. The former has been understood as influential in determining the definition of the latter and several writers have significantly contributed to this characteristic through their narrative and storytelling. Alice Munro is effective in efficiently managing the characters in the story that make it very realistic to the r eaders. In life situations, one finds several examples of teenagers who are driven by the same passion of the heroine of the story. In one such interesting case, a thirteen year old boy named Sam Leeson hanged himself after being tormented on social networking website Bebo and the reason was his liking for Emo rock bands. ââ¬Å"Sensitive Sam Leeson was bombarded with cruel messages because of his long hair and dark clothes. His tormentors also mocked his love of Emo stars such as My Chemical Romance and their angst-ridden lyrics. Sam was found hanged in his bedroom after months of abuse.â⬠(Coles, 2008) One may relate this real life incident in the life of Sam Leeson to the experiences of the young heroine of Munro story and the character wants to kill herself over a small crush in the similar fashion. This illustrates the superior quality of the narrative style which appear realistic to the readers. A Comparison of Macbeth and Oedipus Rex The objective of this essay is to compare the Shakespearian tragedy Macbeth to the Greek tragedy, Oedipus Rex. Although the plays share similarities, it will be seen that the fall of Macbeth is very different from that of Oedipus. Macbeths downfall is due to his own personal decisions while the downfall of Oedipus is due to fate and the will of the gods. In Greek tragedy plot was always emphasized over character; everyone wore masks. These masks would seem to mask a persons character. This would make the character seem more universal. Oedipus wasnt portrayed as a butcher in Oedipus Rex but he did some very wrong deeds. We dont see him as a butcher because we know that it was not his fault but was all the doings of the gods. In Macbeths case it was not the will of the gods but Macbeths own decisions that caused him to do his terrible deeds. However, it might seem to us that Macbeth was an evil butcher but because of Shakespeares soliloquies we know Macbeths inner thought and we see him wrestling with his own guilt. This helps us to portray him as more of a man than just an evil butcher. Oedipus never does a soliloquy. This means that we dont really know the inner Oedipus or what he is thinking. He is just a pawn of fate and is not in control of his actions, it would seem, like Macbeth is. Macbeth kills people through his own controllable actions whereas Oedipus killed Liaus in an uncontrollable rage and didnt realize that he was actually the king of Thebes. Shakespeares soliloquies make us see that Macbeth is not really as bad on the inside as he may appear to be on the outside. The soliloquies let us see what Macbeth is thinking. White supremacy is basically the exploitation and oppression of the people and communities by the white people; for the given purpose of establishing, maintaining and defending the wealth, power and privilege. This white supremacy has established a culture that justifies and binds together the white people. According to Summer in the text ââ¬Å"anti-defamationâ⬠, there was an instance that occurred on the 10th of August 1999, Oââ¬â¢Neal Furrow Jr. threatened a Filipino-American mailman by saying, â⬠mail the letter before I shoot you!!â⬠and it only happened after he tried to shoot kindergarten students with their teacher who are believed to be Jews. After what he had done, he was taken to custody and his justification for his action was that he wanted his actions to be a wake-up call for the American people to kill and eradicate the existence of the Jews. Though the act was wicked and sick, the accused was not charged of anything since the officer-in-charge is white. From this, it is assumed that white supremacy in a violation of human rights and only those you have experienced it are the only ones who can testify. There is no room for cases like this since you do not belong to the predominant group which is the white people. White supremacy entails the discrimination against the blacks thought they do not do anything back being black is already a sin. This mentality made ââ¬Å"the blacksâ⬠the inferior race than ââ¬Å"the whitesâ⬠. White supremacy ideologically manipulates the United States politics and affects other institutions of the American society. There are criteria to classify racial categories such as economic status, social status and political status. à All of this is related with power acquisition.à The European model of supremacy does not actually teach to hate based on color and social stratification hence they just want to contaminate the nations to affirm the dominance of the whites. The white supremacy sprouted from the identity crisis of the European nationalism. White Supremacy is said to be and ideological, structural, historical stratification process intentionally transmitted by Europe: to other races to promote advantages of the ââ¬Å"whitesâ⬠; to make the top-to-bottom mechanics work; and especially to make Europeans dominant based on color, gender, social status, ethnicity and religion. They want to be the dominant race because of the power relations accompanied by being dominant. Privileges of power are the most important thing since it involves the allocation of resources and making decisions. The process of White Supremacy is to plague the minds of other races to emulate the fear and inferiority based upon the qualities that they have. Well in fact, there is no material evidence to say that ââ¬Å"whitesâ⬠are the supreme beings. These are some of the evidence that there are methods used by the White Supremacy adherents to spread the bad word. First, they used religion as a tool. It is believed that the racists asked God for permission to hate other religions that do not worship God. Second, they use the media to spread their propaganda. A credible person would talk in a radio show fueled by a ââ¬Å"hate-motivatedâ⬠speech to assert what has to be done in the said to inferior races. Another form that they use is the use of the written-word, the newspaper. There are tabloids that they used to promote hate and discord with the other races and religions. In religion, they sent out pamphlets that tell how God has given them the power to kill and eradicate religion that has not been rooted for the white people. Another is through music, though most of them are banned now since they want to promote a harmonious relationship with blacks as they say. They used the music industry to spread hate by creating songs that are related with blacks and being racists is a good thing, that sort of themes. For the blacks, they have countered it with the hip-hop scene but they do not promote hate for white people, they express themselves by showing how kind they are and how passionate they are with music. Blacks never claimed that they are better it is just that whites are insisting to rub them to be inferior. Third, is that they used videogames to give the virtual reality a taste for those who crave to kill and abuse the inferior race. Videogames are not screened or monitored if they are created to have discriminatory them hence it is tolerated since it sells more. And also it has extreme access with the youth and the upcoming youth is the market for new white supremacy adherents. In a simple game of chess, one may might ask, ââ¬Å"why the player with white pieces will make a move first?â⬠This is very controversial since chess has been a long time game hence it spurred discrimination. It was said that the white pieces are the aristocrats and the black are the slaves. Hence, it was not provided that there is hierarchy between them. It is just that the white pieces are made to have distinction with the black pieces and being the first to move was never intended to be absorbed as its discourse. The White horde or the areas where white people is in abundance have shown evidence to exercise white supremacy. The rise in the migration trend on these countries have implied that there will be also a rise in the white supremist groups hence it was unintentional. Due to that, the justice system has improved their prevention and surveillance against these groups. If such group was established, it can be punishable by the law. White supremacy is a negative ideology to adhere with and its attacks are non-rational. We are rational beings. We should act in accordance to what the people act upon. If they are good, we must be good. If they are bad, rationalize the situation first before retaliation. We cannot be discriminatory based on color. Being black is not being aliens. Being non-Christian is being evil. This is not what we have wanted for our society to become. We label this deviant thinking and idea to for the wrong reasons. With this, we are creating a barrier between other races. This is bad for the hopes of the world to be harmonious. There is nothing we could do change are colors and our beliefs hence we should not make any prejudices and stereotypes against other races since it will promote vengefulness and discord among them. White supremacy should be thrashed as well the black supremacy. Black supremacy was in reaction to white supremacy and still the whites did not realize the implications and effects of they did. Overall white supremacy is a racist ideology. It promotes hate among groups and races that are not white in culture and in practice. The White Supremacy adherents are blinded by the false consciousness instilled by them. I think no one would claim who started this racist ideology because he must be ashamed of what he did. The use of other institutions even religion is a very sick mentality. With this, as our awareness, we should eradicate white supremacy at all costs. We must launch an effort against this. Racism and discrimination are not corruptors of society. We must not entertain any of these wrong ideas. Differences must not lead to discrimination. We are blinded by the differences that we have. We are being disillusioned by the fact that whites are made to be superior yet they just imposed it on us. There is no superior or inferior race, it just depends on the perception of how we understand things and conditions and act or react with accordance to these things. Nightjohn and Number the Stars Essay In Nightjohn there were a number of facts, details and incidents that contribute to the historical accuracy of the book. I have outlined some of the more specific examples as follows:There was a man who risked his life for the sake of teaching the other children in the surrounding plantations how to read and write. The owner of the plantation whipped his slaves for moving too slow and did go out with dogs and two field hands after any of the slaves if they decide to run. He brings two field hands with him so they can see what happens and retell the story back at the quarters. He does this basically so everyone will be horrified and wont decide to escape. Reading and writing was strictly forbidden because the owner wanted to keep them ignorant so they wouldnt rebel against him. Once a female got her troubles menstrual cycle they would be sent off to the breeding sheds to reproduce. The mammy took care of all the young ones until they were old enough to go out and work in the fields. The slaves were forced to eat from a trough like animals. The mammy would pray with her head inside a kettle so that the owners would not hear her pray. Praying, too, was strictly forbidden. Number the Stars contains even more facts, details and incidents that contribute to the historical accuracy of the book. They are outlined below:King Christian X was a King during the time of war in Denmark. He also surrendered to the Germans in 1940 because of the fact that the country was small and undefended, with no army of any size. (Lowry 134). It is true that he (King Christian) rode alone on his horse from the palace every morning, unguarded, and greeted his people. (Lowry 134). The German soldiers occupied Denmark for five years. The Germans controlled the rail system, hospitals, schools, government, and even the newspapers. The story about the soldier who saw King Christian ride by on his horse one morning and asked a boy Where is his body guard? to which the boy replied All of Denmark is his bodyguard, is in fact, true. On August 1943, the Danes did sink their entire navy in Copenhagen harbor before the Germans came to take the ships for their own use. Also in 1943, anyone who gathered to worship at the synagogue, were warned by the rabbi that they were going to be taken and relocated by the Germans. The Danes took in the Jews and fed them, hid them, protected them and helped them get to Sweden safely. The handkerchief used to ward off the guard dogs was based in fact. It was made of dried rabbit blood and cocaine. There really were resistance leaders in Denmark. Peter Nielsen was fictional but Kim Malthe-Bruun was not. He was an actual person and was captured and executed by the Nazis at the age 21. When I finished reading Nightjohn I could not believe any of this could be true. I could not bring myself to believe that a man could be so heartless as to, not only own people, but whip them and torture them. I could not believe someone would chain a person up and whip their backs until their skin peeled. Then leave them there and let the flies lay eggs in their backs. That literally made me ill. I could not grasp the fact that a human being treated people as if they were wild, untamed animals. Send dogs to find them and once the dogs did he would stand there and watch them tear at the slaves flesh. I respect the fact that a man endangered his own life for the benefit of the younger o nes. Nightjohn taught Sarny the alphabet a numbers, which was rigorously forbidden. Even though, Number The Stars was just a childrens book, this was actually the first book that ever made me feel for the characters, enough to cry. To think, that a small, peaceful country was overrun by the Germans. Everything was taken away from them. Everything was taken, except for their religion. The Nazis were so awful. They were just as bad as Waller. Both the Nazis and Waller stole other peoples freedom. But it seems as if, in both cases they could not steal their religion or their soul. I really dont think the intended audiences would understand Nightjohn. Just to give you an example, the language in the book gave me trouble at first and I am a teenager, not a child. However, I feel this book would be a great way for the young reader to get a glimpse of what it was like for children their age, in those days. In particular, children can reflect on the life of African children who had been tak en from their homeland and brought to work the fields of America and the abuse and torture they were made to suffer. Number the Stars on the other hand, was expertly written for the younger child. It seemed all too real. For example, in the beginning, Annemarie and Ellen were running down the street and were stopped and scolded by a soldier. That is an exact example of what kids do and how adults usually respond. Its written from a childs perspective, so the child can easily go into the mind of Annemarie, perhaps even for a moment, become Annemarie.

One is in June (Tsuyu: plum ain) and the other is in September (Akisame: autumn rain). The annual rainfall averages 2,000 mm, so fresh water is abundant. This water provides benefits to Japanese agriculture, allowing cultivation of rice, vegetables and fruit. (Kumakura, 2009) 2. Karl Marx Essays - Economic Ideologies, Political Ideologies Karl Marx Karl Marx was born on May 5, 1818, in a place called Trier in Prussia. Marx attended the university of Bonn and later the university of Berlin, where he studied law, while majoring in history and philosophy. Karl Marx was married to his childhood friend Jenny von Westphalen, in 1843. Karl met his closest friend Frederick Engels in September of 1844, when he arrived in Paris. Together they participated in the activities of many revolutionary societies, and formed the theory and ideas of revolutionary proletarian socialism, also known as communism. Marx's health declined due to his strenuous work with Frederick Engels with the theory and the ideas of Communism. On December 2, 1881, his lifelong wife passed away. And just more than a year later Karl Marx died peacefully at his home. Both were buried at Highgate Cemetary in London, where they still lie today. The belief behind socialism is that certain inequalities that are evident in our society are unfair, and that the lesser part of the population should now own the majority of the wealth. However there are different ways socialists believe this should change. Some feel that this change should come through the government, through a gradual process, and some believe this change should come rapidly through a revolution. Socialist beliefs have been growing for many years. It first originated when Western Europe and North America fell victim to the process of industrialization. Before that period, most of these areas dealt and traded in agriculture. But through industrialization, they became trading nations, and later industrial nations. Major changes in the lifestyle of society came with this major economic change. Many went from being self-employed, as a farmer for example, to working in a huge plant. This was how the working class was formed. All of this industrialization in the major c ities, caused many of the people in the rural areas to migrate to these areas in hopes of work. This resulted in the population becoming centralized. This centralization of population led to many problems caused by over-crowding such as crime, disease, and poverty. The ones working in factories weren't the only ones suffering of low wages caused by too much competition, and the desire to cut costs by the owners, but also independent shopkeepers suffered. The craftsmen who had their own shops were swallowed whole by these big factories who could make the same product at mass volumes for half the cost as the shopkeeper. These independent shopkeepers were put out of business. Without any intention at all, capitalism had developed and spread throughout Western Europe and North America. As it grew and expanded, the few owners became wealthier, and the working class became poorer. Still today in western countries exist socialist parties, who look to achieve total or partial socialism for their nation, so they do not have to worry about the problems associated with capitalism.Years later, Karl Marx and his philosophies infulenced later leaders which gave rise to Communism in the world, which then started a political war with Capitalism. One of Marx's main theories was his critical assault on the capitalist system. The capitalist system being based on private ownership of the means of production, which gives the power to very few. Marx himself mounted a full scale attack on the the theories, institutions, and philosophies of industrial capitalism. His main argument was that capitalism was irrational. Marx did agree that the capitalist system was unparalleled at the method of production it used. However, under that same system, the problem existed of how to distribute the products its factories have made. The fact was that under a capitalist system, production was meant to make a profit, not to satisfy the needs of the society. Marx stated that as long as those products being produced, were making a profit, they will remain being produced, no matter whether the public demanded that product, or not. Also with the capitalist system, came competition. This drove the capitalists to cut the costs as much as possible. This is done through cutting the wages of the laborers.
